About CEWEFIA

An Ongoing Story of Empowering Women in Ghana

CEWEFIA was formed and inaugurated in March 1990 by Mrs. Victoria Churchill Koomson. The organization is a female oriented NGO that operates in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana. It focuses on the implementation of integrated development programmes in its efforts to liberate the rural poor from oppression, eliminate hunger and economic injustice and build self-sufficiency and sustainable development. It puts special focus on the poor, rural fishmongers and women farmers, their families and communities.

GOAL 
To improve the standard of living of women and the well-being of children in our project communities.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Organize fishmongers into viable groups and cooperatives to promote networking and increase the fish processing capacity of the women.

  • To promote the adoption of improved fish processing methods and energy efficient smoking technologies.

  • Promote and provide vocational skills training to girls and young women

  • Promote functional literacy among rural women

  • Research into issues affecting women and children in the project communities

  • Promote early childhood development education especially the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

  • Play an advocacy role for women and adolescent girls on their Reproductive Health Rights, Human Rights and other policies that affect their socio-economic status.

  • Improve financial management and marketing skills of fishmongers and agro processors.

  • Undertake community education to create awareness on Environmental Hygiene and sanitation and ensure pleasant physical environment in the communities and work places.
